You might be asking yourself, “What is this thing called Rocket League?” Well you are not alone because not a lot of people know what it is. Rocket League is a video game that you can play on the Xbox, PS4, PC, and Nintendo Switch. It is a mash up of both cars and soccer. The objective of this game is to basically play soccer while you yourself are a rocket powered car. There are different game modes where you either play by yourself one on one, with a partner two vs two, or with two other players on a three vs three. The games are broken up into a match of 5 minutes where the two teams battle it out. At the end of the 5 minutes the team with the most goals wins the match. The thing is that this game is not as easy as it sounds, you don’t just “put the ball into the goal.” There are many factors that stop you from doing that. For example, there are 3 players on the enemy team that don’t want you to score so they are defending the net. The ball also is something that you can’t hit easily since it will either be going really fast off the walls or it will be up in the air waiting for you to hit it. The walls also don’t tend to help you at all since you can be following the ball and all of a sudden it will hit the invisible wall and bounce back to another random place that you have to follow it to.

It really helps the people that don’t really know a whole lot of the game to get a better understanding of it. This game also has a lot of its own language within the players. For example, a “double commit” would be when two players commit to going for the same ball, this is something that isn’t really good since it leaves the last player exposed and vulnerable to getting scored on. Also when someone says “dunked” it means that someone was trying to hit the ball and the opposing player completely overpowered them and made the ball go else where. There is also something called an “aerial” is when a player in the game jumps into the air and uses their boost to glide and hit the ball while they are still in the air. There is also a word that people use for something that only very skilled players can do. That is called a “flip reset”, this is when you go up for an aerial and flip your car and the undercarriage hits the ball and you get your flip reset. You can then flip into the ball once again and fool the defenders into scoring. It should be something that is not that hard to master after a while of playing the game.
